The Electrician Qualification equips learners with the essential skills and knowledge to install, maintain, test, and repair electrical systems across residential, commercial, industrial, and specialized sectors. Through a combination of theoretical learning, practical hands-on experience, and real-world applications, this program prepares learners to meet industry standards and ensures safe and efficient electrical installations and maintenance.
Purpose:
This comprehensive qualification is designed to prepare learners for a professional career as an Electrician, enabling them to effectively plan, install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical systems. With a total of 360 credits, this qualification aligns with the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 4, placing it at an advanced level in South Africa’s electrical infrastructure sector.
Entry Requirements:
• Minimum of Grade 9 (NQF Level 1) or equivalent.
• Maths and Physical Science recommended for better understanding.
• Must be medically fit and able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and with tools/equipment.
• Able to read, write, and understand English (for technical manuals and safety).
Qualification Structure
The qualification comprises three main module types:

Knowledge Modules (Theory)
These modules develop foundational understanding, including:
• Principles of electricity and electrical theory
• Electrical tools, equipment, and materials
• Single- and three-phase systems
• AC/DC theory and circuits
• Motors, transformers, and generators
• Electrical control systems
• Wiring regulations and codes (e.g., SANS 10142-1)
• Occupational health, safety, and environmental management

Hands-on training modules cover key technical competencies:
• Wiring circuits: lighting, socket outlets, DB boards
• Testing and fault-finding of installations
• Installing conduits, trunking, and cabling
• Use of test instruments (multimeters, insulation testers, etc.)
• Motor starters and control systems
• Earthing and bonding systems
• Working with renewable energy systems (optional)
• Electrical maintenance and repairs

Learners must gain structured experience in a real working environment:

• Maintain equipment and perform preventative maintenance
• Interpret and follow drawings, wiring diagrams, and job cards
• Work with teams on construction, industrial, or domestic sites

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES(ELOs):
Qualified individuals will be able to:
1. Install, maintain, and repair low and medium voltage electrical systems.
2. Interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics, and codes accurately.
3. Test and inspect installations in accordance with statutory and safety standards.
4. Perform electrical fault-finding using appropriate tools and diagnostic methods.
5. Apply safety procedures and legislation (OHS Act, SANS 10142) on every job.
6. Work effectively in teams and communicate clearly in technical contexts.
External Summative Assessment (Trade Test):
